River Reuss Possibilities and hints

Sun, rain or moonlight: A boat trip on the river Reuss is a thrilling adventure. Whether you are traveling by canoe, kayak or rubber boat- fun and adventure are guaranteed! Here you embark on a journey through the middle of one of the largest natural landscapes of the Swiss Mittelland.

From Bremgarten the river leads through one of the largest pristine landscapes of the Swiss plateau. In wide elegant loops it curves past lush green banks, all protected as a conservation area.

Various rapids require attention, while you can enjoy the pure natural beauty in quieter sections. Despite its beauty, keep the dangers of this river in mind. They should never be underestimated. Therefore, observe the notes below.

Routes

Gisikon-Root - Obfelden - Ottenbach - Rottenschwil (-Bremgarten)
Suitable for families and beginners. Wider river course and less shallows than on other sections. Still several bridges and eddies. Partly within a nature reserve with special provisions. Leaving the river at Rottenschwil recommended. Flachsee reservoir between Rottenschwil and Bremgarten  with no usable current.
Bremgarten - Fischbach - Mellingen - Gebenstorf
There are several rapids, shallows and rock formations which are difficult to recognize in advance. Only recommended for experienced water sports enthusiasts.

Transit for boats

A non-stop transit on the river is not possible (barrages). Please notice the following maps:

For your own safety

  • All passengers must be equipped with life jackets.
  • No alcohol and no drugs.
  • The payload indicated on the boat must not be exceeded.
  • Do not tie boats as they are no longer manoeuvrable.
  • Hypothermia can lead to muscle spasm. The colder the water, the shorter you should stay in it.
  • Jumps from bridges or cliffs into the river can be extremely risky and should be avoided (flotsam / invisible rocks).
